MA Program in Ottoman History

The M.A. Program in Ottoman History is organized by the Department of History and Archaeology in partnership with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies/FORTH. The aim of the Program is to train researchers in Ottoman history. To that end, the Program offers courses in (i) history, that familiarize students with the methodological tools of historical research, (ii) Ottoman language, diplomatics and palaeography, and (iii) modern Turkish language or modern Greek language (for native Turkish speakers or those fluent in Turkish). History courses focus on the history of the Ottoman Empire, but also include a course in Byzantine History or in Modern and Contemporary Greek and European History. Students are also required to write an M.A. research thesis.Graduates of humanities and social sciences departments of Greek universities and equivalent recognized institutions abroad are eligible for admission to the MSc program. Graduates of other university departments, as well as graduates of Higher Technological Educational Institutions, are accepted on a case-by-case basis, provided that their degree is from a department related to the subject matter of the M.A. program in Ottoman History or if their degree shows that they have taken a sufficient number of relevant courses.
